Deadlines to meet at work, getting stuck in traffic jams, hustling children to various activities, meeting financial obligations and such factors all contribute to stresses in our daily routines. Unless you learn how to manage these stresses, your health is liable to get affected badly. Stress leads to anger and anger can destroy marriages and families. It is therefore important to get a handle on these stressful living tendencies that we develop. Yet, many people are completely clueless regarding stress management and ways and means of stress reduction. This article is geared towards this very important aspect of our lives.
There are simple techniques you can use to manage and reduce stress. First things first. Your diet needs to be altered so you stay away from very high fatty foods and foods very high in carbohydrates. A low fat, highly nutritious food packed with essential vitamins and minerals is necessary so the body is armed to handle the ill effects of stress. Sounds like common sense and yet how many times have you seen people stuffing themselves with burgers laden with fat and cholesterol laden chips. Eat plenty of fiber and foods that are high in omega3 fatty acids such as fresh cooked salmon. Your daily diet must comprise of a good serving of fruits and remember to drink plenty of water. Water gets rid of toxins in the body and these get eliminated as waste. Next set aside a few minutes daily for some peaceful quiet time for yourself and perform simple meditation. There are plenty of books and tapes available on-line and in book stores on various meditation techniques. Meditation is known to reduce stress. Alter your breathing technique and take deep breaths instead of shallow breaths. Your body needs oxygen to function right and give it the oxygen it needs so it is strong enough to ward off the bad effects of stress. Listen to soothing music. Loud music filled with high frequencies does not help in reducing stress. Relaxing music is known to calm the nerves and subdue agitated minds. There are plenty of sources to get great relaxing music tapes and records. Learn to deal with the uncertainties of life in a positive manner. Remember everyone in this world has problems of one kind or another. Even nature depicts this by way of alternating daylight with night time. Every night has its day and similarly every bad moment will turn around and become good again. Learn to develop a positive attitude. Remember, unless you manage stress, stress will start managing you and you certainly do not want the latter.
