In our days, you may see cell telephone in the hands of nearly everyone in a city. But if you inquire about who have made the first cell telephone, or at least which company did it, the respones is silence. The history of the creation of the chief cell phone takes its beginning from the middle of XX century.

The first company which proposed to create a cell telephone was AT&T (the firm that also suggests calling cards), or rather Bell Laboratories. It was really bold idea for 1947, but the developers confined themselves originally to the idea of phone assigned only for placing in an auto. it's clear, because phone's mass at that period was about 30-40-kg, and it was really hard to bear such apparatus.

But already in 1950-s the reducing of a car telephones began. And in 1970-s the telephones shed much of their weight and their weight was near twelve kilograms, while the power supply still used board network of a car . During those years, Motorola was well-known for their handheld radio transmitters and didn't consider about cell telephones at all.

A new era of communications began when Martin Cooper, a new engineer of Motorola, came to the corporation in 1954. Martin was just a employee, who was busy with the development of new mobile devices. His department created the chief handheld radio to Chicago police department in 1967. Having worked in Motorola for 2 decades he took a decision to desing a small cell phone.

In the course of year, design attempt of creating the first cell phone were made. Motorola in its way asked FCC (Federal Communications Commisssion) to invest private corporations some frequencies for free to bring new cellular phones in. They felt doubt about the firms' request of frequencies, principally because of the experts of the big and well-known Bell Laboratories, who had doubts as to the making of such little telephones in the nearest futurity. But it took them short to make a resolution, and finally they determined Motorola to be the obvious case of the cordless telecommunications.

As you can see, they even didn't imagine that we may utilize prepaid phone cards in our time. They quickly started to get ready for the first test program of April 3rd, 1973. On April 3, 1973 first transponder was installed on the top of Alliance Capital Building in New York City. The first prototype of BS could support no more than thirty subscribers and connect them with land lines. Due to Martin Cooper, Motorola corporation and other inventors, a new era of telephones was brought in.
